Just a few hours are left before the start of the biggest T20 League in the world. The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to host Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the opening match of IPL 2024 at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 22nd March. However, the two players that the fans are excited to see are MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Dhoni was seen in action last year when he led CSK to their fifth title in IPL 2023. On the other hand, Kohli missed the whole Test series against England last month due to the birth of his son Akaay, and will be seen playing for the first time since the third T20I against Afghanistan 17th January.
As the fans are excited to see two of their favorite players take on the field, RCB batter Virat Kohli feels good to unite with Dhoni after a long time. Notably, Kohli started his international career under Dhoni’s captaincy and has an immense amount of respect for the veteran. In December 2014, Kohli took over the Test captaincy from Dhoni after his shocking retirement from red-ball cricket. While in 2017, Dhoni also handed over the white-ball captaincy to Kohli and continued to play as a senior player until the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.

“Playing against Chennai is obviously always a special occasion, a big game, and the southern derby as they call it,” Kohli told RCB Diaries ahead of opening clash against CSK.
It’s nice to play in front of very passionate Chennai fans. And good to catch up with MS, it’s been a while,” he further added.
