Rajasthan Royals has surprisingly the record for the highest run chase in the IPL. In the 2020 IPL season, Rajasthan Royals hunted down Kings XI Punjab’s target of 224 runs and scored 226 in 19.3 overs.
Rajasthan Royals won the match by 4 wickets and defeated the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). Rajasthan franchise also has the record for the 2nd and third-lowest team scores in IPL.
Mumbai Indians come next in the highest run chase in the IPL with 219 runs. In the 2021 IPL season, MI chased CSK’s 218-run target and conquered MS Dhoni’s squad by winning the match with 4 wickets.
Again Rajasthan Royals clinched the third place in the highest run chase in the IPL. This time Rajasthan Royals chased the Deccan Chargers (now defunct) 215-run target and scored 217/7 runs in the 2008 IPL season.

Over the years, RR proved that they are the best run-chaser team in IPL history. Since the beginning of IPL Rajasthan squad has been sitting on top of the greatest run chase in the Indian Premier League.
Rajasthan Royals has a record for the best highest run chase two times out of the top five successful run chase in the IPL. Below we have listed the top five IPL matches with a record of the highest total chased in IPL.
1. RR vs PBKS IPL 2020 Match – 226
In IPL 2020, the Rajasthan Royals batters outwitted the Punjab Kings bowlers and became the highest run chaser in the IPL. It was looking impossible for RR after Punjab Kings batter Mayank Agrawal slammed a century and scored 106 runs off 50 balls and captain KL Rahul bagged 69 runs, contributing to a mammoth target of 223 runs.
However, the Rajasthan Royals batters including skipper Steve Smith (50), Sanju Samson (85), and Rahul Tewatioa (53) accepted the challenge and helped the team to achieve the target. Let’s not forget Tom Curran (younger brother of Sam Curran) and Jofra Archer high high-intensity performance in the final over. The RR scored a total of 226/6 runs and won the match against Punjab Kings at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
2. MI vs CSK IPL 2021 Match – 219
The second-highest IPL run chase is named to the Mumbai Indians against the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2021. IPL fans have always been excited about the CSK vs MI match in the IPL tournament. Both MI and CSK shared the five-time IPL trophy winners and had some great highest-run chasing matches in the tournament.
Arun Jaitley Stadium became the witness of the greatest highest run chase of Mumbai Indians in the 2021 IPL season. When Chennai Super Kings batters Ambati Raidu helped in scoring 218 runs target with his 72 not-out runs in just 27 balls along with Moeen Ali (58), and Faf du Plessis (50).
No one would have thought that MI could chase the target so easily. All thanks to Kieron Pollard (87* runs in 34 balls), Quinton de Kock (38 runs), and Rohit Sharma (35) amazing innings. The MI won the match by 4 wickets and defeated the CSK.
3. RR vs Deccan Chargers IPL 2008 Match – 217
The Rajasthan Royals won their second-highest run chase against Deccan Chargers (now defunct) in the IPL Inaugural season 2008. Andrew Symonds silenced the RR’s bowlers and bagged 117 runs in just 53 balls including 11 fours and 7 sixes at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
In return, Rajasthan Royals Graeme Smith (71), Yusuf Pathan (61), Mohammad Kaif (34), and captain Shane Warne (22) showed a great example of teamwork. 4. SRH vs RR IPL 2023 – 217
The 4th highest successful run chase in IPL was when Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Rajasthan Royals in their home ground at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The Rajasthan Royals gave a huge target of 214 runs with the help of Jos Buttler (95) and Sanju Samson (66) incredible innings.
The SRH batters Anmolpreet Singh (33), Abhishek Sharma (55), and Rahul Tripathi (47) all chipped in achieving the 200+ target. The Sunrisers won the match by scoring 217 runs with 6 wickets falling against Rajasthan Royals in the 2023 IPL season.
5. MI vs PBKS IPL 2023 – 216
The Mumbai Indians are once again on the chart for the highest run-chase record in the IPL. When MI won the toss and chose to bowl first many thought it was a mistake as the Punjab batsman had a great time including Liam Livingstone (82), Jitesh Sharma (49), and captain Shikhar Dhawan (30).
After MI skipper Rohit Sharma’s wicket on zero, Ishan Kishan (75), Suryakumar Yadav (66) and Tilak Verma (26*) handled the teams batting line-up and scored 217 runs in 19 overs.
