Mumbai Indians’ Skipper Hardik Pandya was fined for the second time in this year’s IPL for maintaining a slow over-rate against Lucknow Super Giants. The first instance was against Punjab Kings on April 18, where Hardik was fined 12 lakhs rupees.
As this was the second instance where Mumbai Indians were found guilty of maintaining a slow over rate, the entire team along with the impact player were imposed a fine of 6 lakhs Rupees or 25 percent of the match fees, which is deemed to be lower. MI were handed a four wicket loss by LSG in their home ground, Ekana Stadium on Tuesday.
“Mr Hardik Pandya, Captain, Mumbai Indians has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 48 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants on April 30, 2024,” the IPL website said in a statement.
As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 24 Lac.
“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 Lac or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the official handle added.
Mumbai was handed their seventh defeat in this campaign out of the ten games played, keeping them ninth in the points table. As their below par season continues Mumbai Indians managed just 144 runs at the loss of 7 wickets after 20 overs, thanks to Nehal Wadhera’s 46 and Tim David’s unbeaten 35.
In reply, in form Marcus Stoinis played another match winning knock of 62 off 45 deliveries. Hardik’s two wickets and Bhumrah’s economic bowling failed short as Lucknow secured the victory with four balls to go.
