Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has recently taken a sly dig at the English cricketers who have left the ongoing 17th season of the Indian Premier league without advance notice.
Notably, star England cricketers who have been named in the country’s 15 man squad for the T-20 World Cup 2024 and are participating in the IPL 2024 are set to leave their respective team franchises for national duty.
As per the reports, the BCCI had previously taken permission from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for their players participation in the IPL 2024 play-offs which will be conducted a week before the commencement of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States of America and West Indies.
However, breaching the agreement, the ECB has called back their players which has forced the England’s squad members to leave their respective team franchises at the crucial stage of the tournament.
Team franchises like Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders who have been qualified for the IPL 2024 play-offs will be in jeopardy as their ace opening batters Jos Buttler and Phil Salt will depart from the team.
The English cricket team captain Jos Buttler has already left the Rajasthan Royals squad which made the team name Tom Kohler Cadmore as replacement in their match against Punjab Kings last night.
After the game, Punjab Kings’ stand-in captain Sam Curran revealed that he along with Jonny Bairstow will be leaving the squad the following day, missing the team’s upcoming match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Irfan Pathan Gives Stern Warning to England Players For Missing Remainder of IPL 2024
After Rajasthan Royals crushing five wickets defeat against Punjab Kings, former Indian all-rounder took to his social media account and tweeted, ‘Either be available for full season or don’t come’.
Irfan Pathan expressed his disappointment with the England players leaving the team and opined that either the players should be present for the complete IPL season or restrain their participation from the tournament.
The IPL 2024 play-offs are scheduled to begin on May 21 and the final of the summit clash will be conducted on May 26 in Chennai. Meanwhile the global tournament will get underway from June 2. The defending champions, England will kick off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Scotland on June 4 and have been placed in Pool B alongside Australia, Namibia and Oman.
