Star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is all set to play for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. After leading Gujarat Titans (GT) for two years, Pandya now has now been traded to the franchise from where he started his IPL career.
It was an all-cash deal between MI and GT as MI payed INR 15 crore to Pandya for joining their squad in IPL 2024. Notably, it is believed that Pandya is bought to replace Rohit Sharma as the captain of MI in future. He had a successful stint as the skipper of GT as he first led them to the title in their maiden IPL season in 2022. Notably, GT also finished as the runners-up in IPL 2023 in Hardik’s captaincy.
Hardik Pandya’s inclusion will provide more strength to MI’s lineup as they will be coming to clinch their sixth IPL title in the upcoming edition. However, Pandya is currently out of cricketing after suffering an ankle injury during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, but he is likely to make a comeback in the 17th edition of the IPL. Hardik Pandya made his IPL debut in 2015 for Mumbai Indians (MI) after he was bought by the franchise at the base price of ₹10 Lakhs. With time, he became one of the crucial players for MI throughout and was also a part of their title-winning campaigns in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. However, he had a forgettable season in IPL 2021 and was released by the franchise ahead of IPL 2022, when two new teams, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants joined the cash-rich league. Hardik Pandya made his IPL debut in 2015 when the Mumbai Indians (MI) snapped him up in the player auction. He played his first-ever IPL match on May 14, 2015, against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Mumbai. In a must-win situation for MI, Pandya displayed his all-round abilities, scoring a blistering 61 runs in just 31 balls to earn his Man of the Match award in the season.
