IPL Winners List: The Indian Premier League (IPL) is coming with its 17th edition that will kickstart on 22nd March, 2024 with a match between the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M.A Chidambaram in Chennai. The IPL has been the biggest cricket league over the years and features the top cricketers from all over the world.
Winning an IPL trophy is not a cup of tea and it requires a perfect squad, analysis and gameplan to clinch the title. Rajasthan Royals (RR) are the first-ever champions of the IPL, who clinched the trophy in its inaugural season in 2008 under the captaincy of the Australian legend Shane Warne. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings are the two most successful teams in the IPL with five titles each, while Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are third most successful franchises having won two titles in 2012 and 2014 respectively. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad (2016) and Gujarat Titans (2022) have also got their hands on the IPL trophy once.
However, even after the 16 editions, there are a few teams who are a part of the league since 2008, but are still awaiting their first title. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are three teams who haven’t won an IPL trophy despite being part of the league since its inaugural season. RCB have qualified for the three times in 2009, 2011 and 2016, while PBKS and DC have reached the final once in 2014 and 2020 respectively. On the other hand, Lucknow Supergiants, who made their IPL debut in 2022, are also in contention to win their first trophy in IPL 2024.
