India vs USA: T20 World Cup 2024, Match Highlights
In the T20 World Cup match on June 12, 2024, India was awarded five penalty runs against the USA. This happened because the USA didn’t start the next over within the 60-second limit set by the ICC’s new rule to speed up play. USA captain Aaron Jones, standing in for Monank Patel, missed the deadline, giving India crucial penalty runs.
These extra five runs came handy in for India who were chasing down a score of 35 for 30 balls in the last five overs at the Nassau County International Stadium where the scoring was difficult due to the uneven bounce of the pitch. The penalty reduced the pressure from the shoulders of India’s batsmen and Surya Kumar Yadav quickly scored the remaining needed runs leading India to victory by seven wickets with 10 balls to spare.
Yadav top-scored with 51, while Shivam Dube added a crucial 31 off 35 balls. Earlier, the USA had scored 110-8 in their 20 overs, with Nitish Kumar making 27 and Steven Taylor 24. Arshdeep Singh was India’s standout bowler, taking four wickets. This win secured India’s place in the Super 8s.
