The upcoming India vs. Pakistan T20 World Cup match at New York Stadium on the 9th has generated global excitement. The anticipation is high, and the stadium is expected to be packed to witness this intense rivalry.
Former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar shared his insights, predicting that Indian batsmen will perform well on the New York pitch, which favors good singles play. He emphasized that the pitch might be challenging, but players like Virat Kohli, who excel in singles and doubles, will thrive. Manjrekar believes India’s batting lineup is stronger than Pakistan’s.
He also mentioned that if the pitch conditions are similar to those in the South Africa-Sri Lanka match, Indian batsmen will adapt better than their Pakistani counterparts. Kohli’s preference for singles and doubles gives India a significant advantage.
Manjrekar pointed out the slow nature of the pitch and the poor condition of the outfield, suggesting that the ICC should review it. He noted that batsmen could score well if they stay on the pitch, while effective bowlers could exploit good lengths to take wickets.
Regarding Pakistan, Manjrekar acknowledged their good bowlers but argued that none are world-class, unlike India’s lineup. He praised Indian bowlers like Arshdeep Singh, who excels in pace and swing, and highlighted the excellent form of Bumrah and Siraj. He suggested that Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi might struggle if the pitch is similar to that used in the South Africa-Sri Lanka match.
Manjrekar also reflected on Pakistan’s recent series losses, including a 4-1 defeat against New Zealand’s B and C teams, a loss to Ireland, and a 2-0 series defeat in England. These results, he argued, indicate Pakistan’s vulnerabilities leading into the World Cup.
