How can Pakistan qualify for the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024?
Pakistan have two more games to play. Their first two defeats have pushed them behind the race. India and the USA are looking for two possible teams to qualify from this group. But it has been the history with Pakistan that they start a tournament poorly but still find a way to go long. So we will witness something similar here. Mathematically, it is possible. Pakistan still have a chance, but they should pray that some other results can also go their way.
Firstly, Pakistan will face Canada and Ireland on June 11 and 16, respectively. Currently, Pakistan don’t have a point and have a NRR of -0.150. The Men in Green need to win their two remaining matches, which isn’t that difficult because Ireland and Canada are weaker teams in comparison. Pakistan need to beat them by a good margin, which means they will have four points and a better NRR at the end of the group stage.
After that, they should pray that the USA or India lose their remaining matches. Well, with the form India are in, it looks a bit difficult, but with the USA, it is possible. The USA will face India and Ireland, and if they lose both matches, they will also end up with four points. Then, Pakistan and the USA will have four points each, and with a better NRR, Pakistan will qualify for the Super 8 as the second team from Group A.
