After breaching the Chepauk fortress again, Punjab Kings (PBKS) will now host the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match number 53 of IPL 2024 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on 5th May. In the last match between both teams at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday, PBKS registered a comprehensive 7-wicket win over the hosts CSK, chasing a target of 16 runs comfortably by losing 3 wickets in 17.5 overs. Now, CSK are eyeing revenge against them in Dharamshala and get ahead in the points table.
The five-time champions CSK are currently in fourth position at the points table with five wins in 10 matches. However, they have lost three of their last five matches and will be looking to win all the remaining matches to finish in top 2. On the other hand, PBKS are coming after back-to-back wins where they created history by chasing 262 runs Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens and went on to defeat CSK at Chepauk. Punjab Kings have hosted Chennai Super Kings at their second home ground in Dharamsala named Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, where both teams ended up winning one game each. The first match between PBKS and CSK at HPCA was played on 18th April, 2010, where CSK defeated the hosts by 6 wickets in a last-over thriller. Batting first PBKS (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab posted 192/3 in their 20 overs, with Shaun Marsh top scoring with an unbeaten 88 runs off 57 balls, along with the finishing touches by Irfan Pathan with 44 not out off 27 balls. In reply, Suresh Raina (46 off 27), and Subramaniam Badrinath (53 off 36) took CSK closer to the target. The HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala is all set to hosts its first game in IPL 2024. It has a capacity of 21,000 spectators and has enough bounce to favour both batters and fast bowlers. However, with enough bounce and due factor, the ground also favor the batters as the balls come to the middle of the bat perfectly.
