Star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav has been named captain as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the T20I Team for the year 2023. Apart from Suryakumar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravi Bishnoi, and Arshdeep Singh are the other three Indian players who have made it into the ICC T20 Team of the Year 2024.
Suryakumar Yadav continued his breathtaking form in the shortest format for another year and finished as the third highest scorer in the T20Is in 2023 with 733 runs from 18 matches at an average of 48.86 and a strike rate of 155.95 along with two centuries and five half-centuries. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal who made his India debut in 2023 after tremendous success in the IPL, turned out to be the promising youngster for the Men in Blue and impressed everyone with his attacking approach as an opening batter. Jaiswal has 430 runs from 15 T20Is played in 2023 at an average of 33.07 and a strike rate of 159.25 with three half-centuries and a hundred.
Talking about bowling, Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi have been consistent performers for India in T20Is in the year 2023. Arshdeep finished as the top wicket taker for Indian in the shortest format in 2023. The left-arm pacer picked up 26 wickets from 21 T20I last year at an average of 24.46 and an economy rate of 9.26. Bishnoi has also been impressive with 18 scalps from 11 matches in T20Is in 2023 at an average of 17.61 and an economy rate of 7.20.
England’s Phil Salt has also made it into the ICC T20I Team of the year 2023 for his impressive performance last year which also included two consecutive centuries against West Indies in December. Salt scored 394 runs from eight matches in T20Is in 2023 at an average of 56.28. Another name in the team is Mark Chapman from New Zealand who is among the top scorers in T20Is in 2023 with 576 runs in 21 matches at an a average of 44.30.
Uganda’s Alpesh Ramjani also picked by ICC in 2023 T20I Team of the Year
One of the most unexpected names on the list is Alpesh Ramjani. The allrounder from Uganda is the leading wicket taker in T20Is in 2023 with 55 scalps from 30 matches at an average of 8.98 and an economy rate of 4.77. He has also shown impressive performance with the bat by amassing 449 runs from 20 innings at an average of 28.06 and played a pivotal role for Uganda to qualify for the 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies and the USA.
One of the host nations for the 2024 T20 World Cup, West Indies have only one player in the ICC T20I Team of the Year 2024 as Nicholas Pooran has been included as a wicketkeeper-batter in the team. Sikandar Raza and Richard Ngarava are the two players from Zimbabwe to make into the team, while Ireland’s Mark Adair is also picked by the Apex Cricket Council for his tremendous performance that helped Ireland to qualify for the 2024 T20 World Cup
