The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be aiming to win their maiden title in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). RCB were looking like a great side after the IPL 2023 auction couldn’t make it into the playoffs and finished in the sixth position in the points table. It looks like they were dependent on 3-4 players who were the consistent performers for RCB in IPL 2023.
RCB had so many ups and downs in IPL 2023 and were one of the contenders to secure their berth in the playoffs. However, they failed to make it into the top four after losing their last match against Gujarat Titans and lost another chance to get their hands on the IPL trophy. The main reason for RCB’s failure was the over-dependency on key players of the team. Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell were the main pillars of RCB’s batting line-up in the previous, while Mohammed Siraj was the spearhead of the bowling and was a consistent performer for the team throughout the tournament. Apart from that, none of the players could make any big impact in the tournament.
It looks like RCB are going to release a bunch of players ahead of the IPL 2024 auction and build a new squad for the upcoming season that could make them win their maiden title. They have to come up with different plans and strategies this time to buy some impactful players and match-winners who can clutch in pressure situations.
Who will be the captain of RCB in IPL 2024?
Talking about the captaincy, currently, Faf du Plessis is the skipper of RCB and is likely to continue his role in the upcoming season. He took the captaincy in 2022 when the former skipper Virat Kohli stepped down from the role ahead of that season. Du Plessis had a great outing in his debut season for RCB as captain in 2022 as he led the team to the playoffs in that season. In 2023, Du Plessis also led from the front as he was the second-highest run-scorer of the season with 730 runs from 14 matches at an average of 56.15. However, despite this, he couldn’t lead RCB towards glory.
Notably, Virat Kohli led the side in IPL 2023 due to the commencement of the impact player rule in that season. Looking into this, we can also see Kohli taking charge as the captain again in a few matches in IPL 2024.
