In a blow to the Mumbai Indians’ hopes for the upcoming IPL 2024 season, Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka is set to miss the initial matches due to a hamstring injury sustained during the ongoing series against Bangladesh.
Madushanka, who impressed during the recent ODI World Cup, suffered the injury during the second ODI against Bangladesh, managing only 6.4 overs before leaving the field. This unfortunate setback has led to his exclusion from the decisive third ODI scheduled in Chattogram.
The left-arm speedster’s absence poses a challenge for Mumbai Indians, who secured his services for a hefty INR 4.6 Crore in the IPL mini-auction. His ability to swing the new ball and take early wickets made him a valuable asset for the team.
Despite this setback, Mumbai Indians can rely on Australian pacer Jason Behrendorff to fill the void left by Madushanka. Behrendorff, known for his experience and expertise in power play situations, joins forces with Gerald Coetzee, Jasprit Bumrah, and skipper Hardik Pandya to bolster the team’s bowling attack.
While Madushanka’s injury is undoubtedly a setback for both Mumbai Indians and Sri Lanka, the team remains optimistic about their prospects in the IPL 2024 season with a formidable bowling lineup at their disposal.
