The Mumbai Indians have not had a great start to the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League. They are yet to secure a win alongside their name and find themselves at the bottom of the table. To add to this blow, there are reports coming out of the camp that the former captain, Rohit Sharma, is unhappy with the way things are going this season and will not be a part of the team after this season. Hardik Pandya’s leadership has caused a rift in Mumbai’s dressing room. The atmosphere in the dressing room is not good at all, as there have been arguments between two players over the decision.
Ahead of IPL 2024, the Mumbai Indians made a change in the leadership of the franchise, bringing in Hardik Pandya from the Gujrat Titans. Rohit Sharma, who won five titles as the captain of the team, was removed. There are rumours that Rohit Sharma could enter the mega auction before the next season of the Indian Premier League.
The change in captaincy seems to have failed for MI. Fans disappointment has been very vocal, with the new skipper being greeted by boos in all the games Mumbai has played. Hardik Pandya has also made a lot of tactical errors and has been questioned about his captaincy.
In the second match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, MI conceded the highest runs by an IPL team in an innings as SRH scored 277. Bowlers were shattered by the batters as experts questioned the use of Bumrah, who was not brought in when required, which gave the Orange Army much-needed time to settle.
There are also rumors that the Mumbai Indians management might also consider a change in captaincy. It is learned that the Pandya would be given at least more games to prove his worth as the captain of the team.
In their next game, the Mumbai Indians will face the Delhi Capitals on Sunday afternoon at the Wankhede Stadium. MI will look to turn things around with the firepower they have on paper. DC, on the other hand, is also in the same situation after being thrashed by KKR, though they have already secured their first win of the season.
