Shikhar Dhawan made his Indian Premier League debut against the Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi, on April 19, 2008, for the Delhi Daredevils. After Delhi Daredevils, Shikhar Dhawan played for the Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals, and is now captaining the Punjab Kings in the current IPL season.

The first hundred for Shikhar Dhawan in the IPL came against the Chennai Super Kings at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on October 17, 2020. Dhawan scored a magnificent hundred in the chase and added 101 runs from 56 balls. In that inning, Dhawan smashed 14 fours and 1 six against CSK bowlers and played with a strike rate of 174.13. In the nail-biting contest, the Delhi Capitals beat the Chennai Super Kings by five wickets. For the brilliant hundred, Shikhar Dhawan won the player of the match.
In the next match against the Delhi Capitals in the 2020 season, Shikhar Dhawan once again scored a century. This time against Kings XI Punjab on October 20, 2020, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the first inning Dhawan registered an unbeaten 106 runs from 61 balls. Scored 12 fours and 3 sixes with a strike rate of 173.77. Unfortunately, the Delhi Capitals lost that game, but for his brilliant batting display, Dhawan was named player of the match.

On June 6, 2013, against South Africa at Sophia Garden, Cardiff Shikhar Dhawan made his first One Day International hundred.
