The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) has completed the first half of the group stage. Every team has played half of their gourp matches, and the points table indicates that some teams are favourites to make it to the playoffs. Not just with the team’s prospective, but also for the Orange Cap.
The race to finish the tournament with the most runs has intensified. Currently, Virat Kohli is at the top of the table with 379 runs in 8 innings. He has scored one hundred and two half-centuries. He has been at the top for a few weeks now. So will he stay at the top until the end of the IPL 2024?
IPL 2024: Can Riyan Parag surpass Virat Kohli to win the Orange Cap?
SRH’s Travis Head is in second place with 324 runs, and RR’s Riyan Parag is third with 318 runs at the moment. Head is a kind of make-or-break player. He can play big innings and also get out cheaply. But it is a good chance for Parag to get what could be his maiden Orange Cap. For that, he needs to go past Virat Kohli, and there are good chances for that. RCB is virtually out of the competition, so Virat will only play 14 games.
He has also registered a few low scores in the last few matches. Meanwhile, RR is at the top and might finish the group stage at the top. Hence, they will play at least two games in the playoffs. That means Riyan will have 16–17 matches. And if he can continue his form, he can surpass Virat. Furthermore, Virat always plays under pressure because a lot depends on his performance, which is not the case with Riyan, who plays freely. So there are good chances for him to get his hands on Orange Cap in the IPL 2024.
