Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Dinesh Karthik puzzled the fans when he took back yo back reviews in the first two deliveries in the opening match of IPL 2024 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M.A Chidambram stadium in Chennai. RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first.
After 19 overs, RCB were 164 for 5 with Dinesh Karthik and Anuj Rawat at the crease. Coming to bowl the final over, CSK pacer Tushar Deshpande bowled a wide ball trying to keep away from Karthik. Now in the next delivery, Deshpande again tried to keep away from the batter and bowled off wide delivery. Karthik walked across the wicket and and tried to hit big shot, but misses. However the umpire didn’t give the wide ball. After that, Karthik asked for a DRS for a wide ball. In the review it was clear that the ball was bowled within the line and third umpire didn’t give the wide ball.
Now in the next delivery, Deshpande again bowled a same kind of delivery and Dinesh Karthik tried to play a same shit he tried on the previous delivery. This time also umpire didn’t give the no ball and Karthik again asked for a wide ball review. The review failed again and and it was turned out to be a fair delivery.
What is a wide ball review in IPL 2024?
The rule was applied in IPL 2023 where the players can also take DRS for wide ball or a no ball. The players or a captain can challenge umpire’s decision if they give wide or a no ball and vice versa. The rule already came in IPL 2023 and has helped the players to challenge any decision and put it in their favour.
