Sarfaraz Khan, who was in the headlines a few days ago after a promising debut in the Indian Test team, was rumoured to be joining an IPL franchise. As per reports, he is tipped to join the purple and gold colours of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
He went unsold in this year’s IPL auction and became the fourth Indian in history to register half centuries in each innings of his debut test match, slamming 62 and 68. His aggressive style of play caught the attention of the experts, as many predicted him to be fit for any IPL team.
Now reports have emerged to suggest that teams like KKR, CSK, and RCB are interested in signing the youngster.
There remains a catch: despite the trade window being open, the player could not be traded as he is not associated with any team. He could only be signed if an existing member of the squad is injured or withdraws from the tournament.
With Shreyas Iyer struggling with injury, Kolkata Knight riders are the frontrunner to rope in the services of the Mumbai batter. Reports suggest that KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir has already given the nod to the franchise in order to strengthen the middle order.
He has been part of the Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals since making his debut in 2015. He did not make any significant impact in any of the seasons as part of the team. In IPL 2023, he aggregated 53 runs over four innings at an average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 85.48.
He has been doing exceptionally well on the Indian domestic circuit, scoring 982, the highest run in the 21-22 season. In the 22-23 season, he scored 556 runs in 6 matches.
