Star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been in breathtaking form in the recently ended ICC Cricket World Cup. Even after missing the first four matches, Shami finished as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 24 scalps from seven matches. However, despite his tremendous performance, India couldn’t cross the final hurdle and lost the final match to Australia by 6 wickets in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Despite the loss, this tournament will be remembered for the breathtaking spells by Mohammed Shami, especially his seven-wicket haul in the semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai. His sensational bowling has been India’s main strength throughout the tournament.
Now the focus has been shifted from ODI cricket to T20I cricket as the players are gearing up for the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the T20 World Cup in 2024. Mohammed Shami will now be seen in action in the upcoming season of IPL next year.

Mohammed Shami is a part of Gujarat Titans in IPL and will be the spearhead pacer for the franchise in the upcoming season. He was also the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2023 with 28 scalps from 17 matches and played a crucial role for his team to get into the finals. He made his IPL debut in 2013 for Kolkata Knight Riders. In 2014, he joined Delhi Capitals. In 2020, he was picked by Punjab Kings for ₹4.80 crore. Then in 2022, the new team Gujarat Titans bought him for ₹6.25 crore.

Mohammed Shami had a great year with the ball as he first finished as the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2023, and highest wicket-taker in the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, he couldn’t win the trophy on both occasions. Now he will look to continue his form in 2024 as well and get a place in the Indian team ahead of T20 World Cup in June 2024
