The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has now reached its playoff stage. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) was the one team that surprised the cricketing world staging a stunning comeback and secured their spot in the knockout stage.
Meanwhile, legendary Australian skipper, Ricky Ponting, emphasized that RCB can win their first IPL title this year, given their performance in the last six matches in the league stage. RCB finished in the top four after a crucial 27-run win against reigning champions Chennai Super KIngs (CSK) on May 18.
“What RCB have done in the last six games, don’t be surprised if they win their first IPL Final,” Ponting told ICC.
RCB are the one team that have made a terrific comeback that will forever be remembered in the history of the lucrative league. Languishing at the bottom of the points table losing seven out of their first eight games, RCB showcased resilience and made no mistakes in the remaining six games.
They are now gearing up to lock horns with Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator which is scheduled to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 22, Wednesday. If the Bengaluru-based franchise wins the game, they will then take on the loser of Qualifier 1, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 2 which will be hosted by the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 24. Notably, the winner of Qualifier 2 will then face off against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the winner of Qualifier 1 on May 26 to clinch the prestigious title.
RCB will heavily rely on the performance of their star batter, Virat Kohli in the upcoming match. Kohli is their standout performer throughout the season, who is currently leading the race for the prestigious Orange Cap, having scored 708 runs in 14 games thus far, maintaining an average of 64.36 and a strike rate of 155.60. His impressive performance included a century and five half-centuries.
