MS Dhoni has set a record for most matches as captain in the IPL and becomes the first captain of 200+ matches for a team in IPL. Dhoni played 226 IPL matches as a captain in the IPL from which 133 times came out victoriously and lost 91 matches.
There was only one time when Dhoni was removed from the captaincy of Pune Super Giants and Aussie star batter Steve Smith took his place in 2017. Other than that Dhoni always led as a captain in the IPL.
After two years of the ban of the Chennai franchise from 2016-2017, the CSK team won the IPL trophy under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in the 2018 IPL comeback season.
CSK MS Dhoni was followed by Mumbai Indians’ leading captain Rohit Sharma who led the Mumbai squad for the five IPL trophies. Rohit Sharma has played 158 IPL matches out of which 87 won and lost 67 matches. Rohit Sharma with the most IPL trophies is no doubt but is one of the greatest IPL captains.
Virat Kohli comes next as the most matches played as captain in the IPL season. Former Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli led the team 143 times as a captain from which won 66 and lost 70 matches.
