We saw some big bids in the IPL 2024 mini-auction in Dubai and all 10 teams have confirmed their squads for the 17th edition of the cash-rich league that likely to be start by the end of March 2024. Every team is looking different and has filled all the slots that were needed ahead of IPL 2024.

1. Chennai Super Kings

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been one of the most consistent teams in the IPL with five IPL trophies. Throughout the years, CSK have emerged as one of the toughest teams to forge. MS Dhoni will be coming to lead the franchise for one more season and CSK will be looking to give him the perfect farewell with a sixth trophy. CSK bought some star players in the IPL 2024 auction including Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway who showed great form in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Apart from this, they have also acquired the service of young wicketkeeper batter Sameer Rizvi for a huge amount of ₹8.40 crore. CSK already had a balanced squad and they have also included some impactful players for the upcoming season that makes CSK one of the strongest teams in IPL 2024.

2. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians (MI) are one of the most successful franchises in the IPL with five titles and are one of the strongest contenders to lift the trophy in the upcoming edition in 2024. MI have bought back Hardik Pandya ahead of the auction and he will be seen leading the franchise in IPL 2024 by replacing Rohit Sharma, while Jasprit Bumrah will also be seen taking the field after missing out of the previous season due to an injury. Apart from this, MI bought South Africa’s 2023 World Cup sensation Gerald Coetzee who will provide more strength to MI’s bowling in the upcoming edition along with Dilshan Madhushanka and the spinner Shreyas Gopal. MI had a good season in 2023 but missed out on their sixth IPL trophy after losing to Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad. Now MI will be looking to clinch the title after 2020 and become the most successful franchise in the cash-rich league.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a forgettable outing in IPL 2023 as they finished 10th in the points table with just four wins in 14 matches, despite having a strong squad. Now, SRH have again formed a strong squad for IPL 2024 with Pat Cummins being the most expensive player in the squad. The franchise has acquired the services of the Australian skipper ₹20.50 crore making him the second most expensive player in the history of the tournament. Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is also a great addition squad. Apart from this, SRH have also bought Travis Head, who was the star for Australia with his century in the final 2023 World Cup final against India, for ₹6.80 crore. SRH are the champions of IPL 2016 but haven’t been able to repeat the glory after that season. Now they will be looking to perform better than the last couple of seasons and form a strong playing XI that could help them win the title for the second time.

Gujarat Titans (GT) have established themselves as one of the strongest teams in the IPL in just the last couple of seasons. They emerged as champions in their maiden season and 2022 and finished as the runners-up in 2023. However, in IPL 2024, GT will be playing under a new skipper as Hardik Pandya has been traded to Mumbai Indians ahead of the 17th edition and will be replaced by Shubman Gill. However, GT still have a balanced squad with impactful players for IPL 2024 and they have also included Shah Rukh Khan, Kartik Tyagi, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Spencer Johnson ahead of the upcoming season. They will be looking to continue their dominance in the IPL 2024 and win their second title in three years.

Apart from this, former skipper Gautam Gambhir, who led KKR to the title in 2012 and 2014 is back in the family as a mentor for the upcoming season. KKR already have a power-packed batting Jason Roy, Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, Andre Russell and Venkatesh Iyer, while they have also included star Australian pacer Mitchell Starc who will be spearhead pacer in the upcoming edition. Starc was picked by KKR for a huge amount of ₹24.75 crore which makes it the most expensive player in IPL history. Kolkata are looking one of the strong contenders to win their third IPL trophy and will be looking to form a perfect playing XI from all the players in their squad.
