Mumbai Indians locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 55th clash of the TATA IPL 2024. This match was played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, and it ended in Mumbai’s favour. MI entered the game after suffering four consecutive defeats, while SRH was in good form. SRH had a great chance to jump to third place with a win here.
But they couldn’t do it, as MI showed some great displays with the bat and the ball. The toss also went MI’s way as they put SRH to bat first. Despite a 56-run opening stand, SRH lost the way in the middle. They kept losing wickets. Travis Head looked good for his 30-ball 48.
Once he got out, it was all MI that didn’t let the batters score freely. Piyush Chawla (3/33) and Hardik Pandya (3/31) bowled well. SRH skipper Par Cummins played a great cameo of 35* off 17 balls to take his team to 173/8 in 20 overs. MI had a horrible start, and they were 31/3 in the 4.1 overs.
It looked like MI would choke under pressure. But then came the match-winning partnership between Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav for 143 runs in just 79 balls to seal the deal for MI. Tilak scored an unbeaten 37 off 32, and SKY smashed a 51-ball century. It was the second IPL century for Suryakumar Yadav.
