MS Dhoni is all set to lead Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for one more time in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. His participation in IPL 2024 has been confirmed by the CSK management after they retained him ahead of the upcoming season. During IPL 2023, there was an anticipation that it might be Dhoni’s last outing for CSK Yellow and he will be announcing his retirement soon after the end of the season. Notably, CSK went on to win the IPL trophy in that season, which was also their fifth title under Dhoni’s captaincy. CSK defeated Gujarat Titans in a nail-biting final in Ahmedabad and were crowned champions for the first time.
After the final, he was asked about his return to IPL 2024, to which he replied he might come to play one more season if he is fit to play. Now, the news has been confirmed and Dhoni will be seen playing one more season of the IPL. However, he is unlikely to play after this season and CSK will be looking for a new captain. The young opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to fill in the shoes of Dhoni as the skipper of CSK in the future.

CSK Captains in IPL From 2008 to 2024
MS Dhoni has been captain of CSK since the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008. He led the team to the final in that season, where they lost against Rajasthan Royals. After that, CSK went on to clinch the title in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023 under Dhoni’s captaincy which made him one of the most successful captains in IPL history. However, Dhoni decided to step down from the captaincy ahead of IPL 2022, and Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as the captain in his place. However, CSK had a disastrous outing under Jadeja’s captaincy as they won only two of the eight matches under his stint. After that, Jadeja was removed from the captaincy during the mid-season in IPL 2022 and Dhoni took over the charge again.
