Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli is on the verge of achieving another milestone in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Needing just 29 more runs, he is set to become the first player in the league’s history to reach 8000 runs.
Kohli can accomplish the new landmark in RCB’s forthcoming match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2024 Eliminator which is scheduled to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 22, Wednesday. Currently, the 35-year-old has scored 7971 runs in 251 games at an average of 38.69 and a strike rate of 131.94. His impressive IPL career includes eight centuries and 55 fifties.
In the ongoing IPL 2024, Kohli is leading the race for the prestigious Orange Cap. So far, he has scored 708 runs in 14 games, maintaining an average of 64.36 and a strike rate of 155.60. The Delhi-born cricketer, who has been the standout performer for his team in nearly every match this season, has scored a ton and five half-centuries thus far.
Speaking about RCB’s performance this season, they had a dreadful start and were languishing at the bottom of the points table with only one win in their first eight games. However, they staged a remarkable comeback, winning their last six games to secure a playoff spot. Their most recent victory was a crucial 27-run win against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which solidified their place in the knockout stage.
After their stunning comeback, RCB, who secured a top-four finish, are eagerly eyeing their first IPL title this season. If they win the game against RR they will then take on the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2. The winner of Qualifier 2 will then contend against the winner of Qualifier 1 for the prestigious title.
