IPL 2024 to take place India despite general elections: Reports
The 17th edition of the IPL is likely to place in India even during the Lok Sabha elections in the country during the same period. The source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed that the whole tournament will take place in India along with the general elections, and if any city doesn’t want to host matches, the match could be shifted to another venue.
“There is nothing like that, to shift the tournament outside the country, as the general election will also be at the same time. If any state doesn’t want to host the match at that time, with any justified reason, the match could be shifted to another venue,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.
Notably, this will be the fourth time when the IPL dates will clash with the Lok Sabha election dates in India. The first time it happened was 2009 during the second season of the IPL when the whole tournament took place in South Africa due to elections. In 2014, the first half of the tournament was held in UAE and India again hosted the second half of the tournament. However, in 2019, the whole tournament was hosted by India despite the general elections in the country at that time.
