IPL powerplay diminishes all the powers of bowlers for six overs. Now the batters have a chance to showcase their hitting power in the match. We have seen some of the highly intense battings during the powerplay in the IPL.
Throughout the years IPL fans have witnessed some of the powerful strokes by the batters during powerplay. Since the IPL’s birth in 2008, powerplay has been the most remarkable time for the batters for groundbreaking performances.
The initial six overs of an IPL innings are the powerplay overs, which means only two fielders will stay outside the 30-yard circles. Powerplay is the most beneficial over, especially for the batters in a cricket match.

1. KKR ( 105/0) vs RCB IPL 2017
The highest powerplay score record is named to Kolkata Knight Riders against RCB in the 2017 IPL season. The KKR opening batsmen Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn have set the stadium on fire with their blazing performances of 54(17) and 50(22) runs in the powerplay. Their partnership bagged a total of 105 runs for the KKR which is the highest powerplay score in IPL history.
2. CSK (100/2) vs PBKS IPL 2014
The second-highest powerplay score is recorded by the Chennai Super Kings in the 2014 IPL season. When CSK lost two wickets in the initial overs Dwayne Smith 66(43) & Faf Du Plessis 67(45) collected 100 runs for the squad in the remaining powerplay overs.
3. CSK (90/0) vs MI IPL 2015
The next spot on top scores in powerplay is again held by the Chennai Super Kings against the Mumbai Indians in the 2015 IPL season. Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum scored the 90 runs for the Chennai in the powerplay. Where Smith scored 62 runs in 30 balls. On the other end, McCullum recorded the 46 runs in 20 balls.
4. KTK (87/2) vs RR IPL 2011
The Kochi Tuskers Kerala (now defunct) comes next on the highest powerplay score in IPL against the Rajasthan Royals. Once again Brendon McCullum who was part of KTK in IPL 2011 scored 29*(12) with a strike rate of 241.60. With two wickets loss, Kochi Tuskers recorded 87 runs in the IPL against the Rajasthan team at Indore Stadium.
5. PBKS (86/1) vs SRH IPL 2014
The Panjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Panjab) is the 5th highest powerplay scorer in the IPL against Sunrisers Hyderabad. All credit goes to Manan Vohra 47(20) and Wriddhiman Saha 54(26) who together collected 86 runs in the powerplay.
6. RR (85/1) vs SRH IPL 2023
Rajasthan Royals comes next on the highest powerplay score against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2023. With one wicket down Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored the highest 85 runs for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023.
This is also the highest Rajasthan Royals powerplay score in the tournament. The second-highest Powerplay record of RR is 81/1 against CSK in 2021.
7. MI (84/0) vs DC IPL 2018
The Mumbai Indians are the next on our highest score in the powerplay against Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2018 season. The MI top-order batters Surya Kumar Yadav, Evin Lewis, and Ishan Kishan together scored 84 runs with one wicket down in the powerplay. This is also the highest score achieved by the Mumbai Indians in the powerplay.
8. Deccan Chargers (84/1) vs DC IPL 2009
Deccan Chargers, an IPL franchise has a brief stint in the IPL history. However, the Deccan Chargers have recorded some of the IPL’s great achievements. The Deccan Chargers (now defunct) have recorded the highest powerplay score of 84/1 against the Delhi Capitals (Formerly known as Delhi Daredevils). Chargers batter Adam Gilchrist has scored 85*(35) for the Deccan franchise.
9. MI (83/1) vs SRH IPL 2021
The Mumbai Indians once again secured the position among the top ten highest powerplay scorers in the IPL. This time Mumbai Indians’ opener, Ishan Kishan, became the one-man army and recorded 32-ball 84 runs for the palatan. The MI has set the record of 83/1 in the powerplay overs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2021.
10. PBKS (83/1) vs RCB IPL 2022
The 10th position in the highest powerplay score is held by the Punjab Kings against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 IPL season. Although Punjab Kings lost their opening batter Glenn Maxwell’s 17/1 in 2 overs, PBKS still managed to score 83 runs in the remaining powerplay overs.
