Ishant Sharma’s Early Life and Career
Ishant Sharma began his domestic cricket career with first class cricket while representing Delhi Delhi. Sharma bagged 68 wickets in the 14 outings for Delhi which attracted the instant attention of the selectors. The young pacer was promptly invited for India’s Under 19 tour of England and Pakistan in 2006-7. At the age of 18, Sharma received his maiden call from the national team for the tour of South Africa in 2006-7 however he was abruptly dropped from the tour before the team took off.
Ishant Sharma made his debut for the Indian test team on May 25, 2007, against Bangladesh where he bowled 3 overs including a maiden. Sharma emerged into the scene later in the year as he replaced India’s frontline pacers during Pakistan’s tour of India in December. The pacer took his first five wicket haul in Bengaluru during the 3rd Test of the series.
The right arm fast medium pacer became the leading wicket taker during India’s tour of Australia in 2008, to become only the second man to achieve this milestone in India after Kapil Dev in 1983. Ishant faced hard luck with his form as he was dropped from the team, however, he made a strong comeback in the team in 2011.
The Indian pacer has been struck with a series of injuries beginning in 2012 which cost him the entire IPL season of the year.
