Despite smashing 83 off 59 balls, Kohli’s RCB failed to secure their second victory of the campaign. Scoring a fifty in consecutive games gave Virat a brilliant start to this year’s IPL. Currently leading the Orange cap race with 181 runs in three games, he scored 77 runs in the last game versus Punjab Kings.
Failing to defend 183 at their home exposed RCB’s shortcomings. Their pattern is again seen this year with Virat being the sole significant contributor with the bat with no support from the likes of Du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell or Cameron Green yet. Along with the bowling department’s lack of cutting edge which also has been their Achilles heel for a long time. They tried to address this situation by adding the likes of Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson, Yash Dayal and Tom Curran but till now they are yet to prove themselves as clutch for this RCB side.
RCB became the first team this season to lose a game at home and breaking the home team dominance from the start of the campaign.
On the other hand, KKR under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir along with the return of Captain Shreyas Iyer maintained their perfect start to the campaign. This was their sixth consecutive victory at Chinnaswamy stadium, thanks to their opening pair of Salt and Narine who gave them the much-needed explosive start in the powerplay scoring 85 runs. Later it was carried on by Venkatesh Iyer who scored a brilliant 50 and Captain Shreyas who controlled the tempo of the game and remained unbeaten at 39.
KKR will play their next match against Delhi Capitals on April 4 in Visakhapatnam and RCB will face Lucknow in Chinnaswamy on April 2.
