If you think that you had seen everything in the first half of the TATA IPL 2024, then you were not ready for the carnage that Sunrisers Hyderabad openers made on Wednesday at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. And this time it was the Lucknow Super Giants who were on the receiving end of it.
SRH went on to make 167 runs within 10 overs to register what could possibly be one of the most dominating chases ever seen. The game started with KL Rahul winning the toss and deciding to bat first. But Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled an exceptional spell of 2/12, and LSG finished the powerplay without hitting a boundary.
They were 73/4 in 13 overs. But Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran added an unbeaten 99 runs in 8.4 overs to take LSG to a respectable total of 165/4. Badoni made 55* off 30 balls, while Pooran scored 26-ball 48 runs.
The pitch looked very slow in the first inning, and it looked like this total would be challenging for SRH. But what happened next became history. Both SRH openers made a mockery of LSG bowlers and smashed them to all parts of the ground.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma added 167 runs in just 9.4 overs to register the fastest ever IPL chase for 150 or more runs. This win gave SRH two important points and also boosted their NRR. Head made 89 off 30, and Abhishek slammed a 28-ball 75 run.
Let’s take a look at the award winners of this close match.
