The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will be playing under a new captain in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. All-rounder Hardik Pandya will be seen leading the side replacing Rohit Sharma, under whom MI have won five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. However, there have been mixed reactions regarding this transition in MI squad. Some fans wanted Rohit back as the skipper, while some want to see how Pandya will carry forward Rohit’s legacy in the upcoming.
The IPL 2024 will kickstart on 22nd March with a match between the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Interestingly, Mumbai Indians will begin their IPL 2024 campaign on 24th March, where Pandya will lead MI against Gujarat Titans (GT) at their home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Notably, Pandya led GT to the title in their maiden season in 2022 and the final in 2023. Now, Pandya will be seen playing for MI in IPL 2024 after GT traded him for ₹15 crore.
Now, Pandya will be leading one of the most successful franchises in IPL and will be carrying high expectations from the MI fans. Talking about his records at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad, Pandya has played nine IPL matches on this ground where amassed 224 runs averaging at 37.33, and took five wickets. His best batting score at the Narendra Modi Stadium is unbeaten 59 runs off 53 balls against Delhi Capitals on 2nd May, 2023. While his best bowling figures on this ground came against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 final on 29th May where he took 3 wickets by conceding 17 runs in four overs.
