The new season of the Indian Premier league has kickstarted a few days ago and the cricket enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for the tournament to witness some of the greatest and most thrilling encounters ever recorded in the history of cricket. Like other dominant overseas cricket playing nations, New Zealand has had a rich history of contributing to the Indian Premier league over the years.
From veteran cricketers participating in the tournament and making a strong impact with both the bat and the ball, there have been numerous cricketers who have found their place of participation in the tournament as the team’s head coaches or mentors.
As of now seven Kiwi cricketers are participating in the 17th season of the Indian Premier league while few veteran New Zealand cricketers like Stephen Fleming and Daniel Vettori are involved with title winning teams like Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad as the franchise’s head coach.

1. Rachin Ravindra
The young New Zealand all-rounder is the latest addition to the Indian Premier league as he was bought in the mini IPL 2024 auction by the defending champions Chennai Super Kings. Rachin has performed the perfect role of an opening batsmen while replacing the team’s former opener and New Zealand cricketer Devon Conway.
In the two matches he has played for Chennai Super Kings, Rachin Ravindra has smashed 83 runs with a whopping strike rate of 237.14. The New Zealand all-rounder is yet to make his debut in the IPL as a bowler however the team franchise has affirmed the possibility of Ravindra bowling in the upcoming matches of IPL 2024
2. Daryl Mitchell
Daryl Mitchell is yet another New Zealand player who was welcomed by the Chennai Super Kings team franchise in the IPL 2024 auction. The all-rounder previously represented Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022. Under the Royal steam franchise, metal failed to make a strong impact with both the bat and the ball which subsequently led him to get dropped from the team.
In the two matches Daryl Mitchell has played in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals, he has managed to register mere 33 runs. The New Zealand all-rounder failed to score big for Chennai Super Kings as he managed to score 46 runs in the two innings for the defending champions at a strike rate of 96.34. With 12 league games remaining he will be looking to make a strong impact in the team.
3. Kane Williamson
The member of the cricket world’s fab four, Kane Williamson has been a veteran in the Indian Premier league as he marked his participation in the tournament since 2015. Williamson spent most of his time in the IPL with the Sunrisers Hyderabad team franchise and lifted his first IPL trophy with the franchise in 2016. The franchise bid adieu to Kane Williamson of the IPL auction 2022 where he was welcomed by the debutant team Gujarat Titans.
In the maiden IPL season Kane Williamson lifted his second IPL title with the Titans team in 2022. Over the years, Kane Williamson has played 77 matches in the IPL and has registered 2101 runs on the board while claiming the spot of one of the most reliable players in the tournament.
4. Lockie Ferguson
After participating for three different IPL team franchises, Lockie Ferguson recently found solace in Royal Challengers Bengaluru who picked him in the IPL 2024 auction. Ferguson began his IPL journey with Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017 and played the majority of his IPL career for Kolkata Knight Riders from 2019-21 and 2023. He also represented Gujarat Titans in the team’s debut season 2022.
Lockie Ferguson is yet to make his debut for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024 and is awaiting his maiden call in the Playing XI. In the 38 matches the pacer has played in the IPL, he has registered 37 dismissals at a bowling average of 31.65 and an economy of 8.66.
5. Mitchell Santner
Mitchell Santner is an experienced New Zealand bowling all-rounder who has been associated with Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier league since 2019. Despite participating in his sixth season in the IPL, the bowling all-rounder has received relatively fewer opportunities to showcase his talent in the cricket league.
In the 15 games he has played in the Indian Premier league for Chennai Super Kings, Mitchell Santner has sent back 13 batsmen back to the dugout with a low economy of 6.88. Santner is yet to play his first match of the IPL 2024 season.
6. Trent Boult
New Zealand’s renowned pacer Trent Boult has been a part of five IPL team franchises over the years and has actively participated for every team. After spending time in Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, Trent Bould currently plays for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024.
In the 90 games he has played in the Indian Premier league for different teams, the New Zealand pacer has sent back 107 batsmen back to the dugout while delivering 11 maiden overs with an economy of 8.3. Boult has also registered a four wicket haul in the IPL and has the best figures of 4/18.
7. Glenn Phillips
The young Kiwi All-Rounder was recently introduced in the IPL in 2021 as he debuted for Rajasthan Royals. However, Phillips was dropped from the team just after one season and picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023 auction. Glenn Phillips has not yet played a fiery knock in the IPL.
In the eight matches he has played in the Indian Premier league, Glenn Phillips has managed to score only 65 runs with an average of 9.29 along with registering two dismissals, which is successively low for an overseas batsman.
