Indian fans are celebrating the start of the new edition of the Indian Premier League as the IPL 2024 got underway on March 22 with a high-profile game between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. It started the cricket carnival in India, which will run for more than two months. But there is something else that has caught the attention of many fans, involving Virat Kohli and famous YouTuber Ajey Nagar, famously known as CarryMinati.
The YouTuber found himself in the spotlight of fans’ trolling and suffered backlash for making a comment on Virat Kohli’s IPL trophy record. In a promotional video from Star Sports, the statement made by him irked RCB fans and Virat’s supporters from across the world. He also compared Virat with Rohit Sharma, who has won five IPL trophies as captain.
Ajey Nagar “CarryMinati” comes up with a clarification on his remark on Virat Kohli after facing backlash
In the video, he was seen highlighting that Virat has left eating sweets because he hardly gets a chance to celebrate with RCB, and diet is just an excuse. He also said that Rohit is not dieting but celebrating instead after winning IPL trophies. That statement didn’t settle well with RCB fans, and they tore him apart on social media.

The anger of the fans was on all over social media platforms. Even “Shane on CarryMinati” hastage started to trend on Twitter (now X). All this led to the YouTuber coming up with an apology, in which he said that the comment was made in the context of the skit and that personally, he didn’t intend to criticise Virat Kohli or RCB. He even clarified that it was the parody role of an RCB fan given to him in that promotional video of Star Sports.
The YouTuber wrote on his X handle about the video and tried to clear up the misunderstanding. He wrote, “I just checked Twitter, thodi misunderstanding hogyi hai. I am doing a show usme ek skit hai jisse log gussa ho rahe hai. Please watch the whole skit to understand the narrative. Why would I disrespect Virat Bhai in real life? It is a skit; it’s not meant to disrespect.” Notably, the former Indian captain has been part of the RCB since 2008 and has not won the title yet. Meanwhile, the women’s team won the WPL 2024, and fans are hoping that the men’s team can also lift the title in 2024.
