Team India winning the 2011 ICC ODI World Cup was a long-lasting dream come true for every Indian fan after a blood-curdling wait of 28 long years. Under the spectacular captaincy of MS Dhoni, India clinched the World Cup trophy by toppling all odds and imbibing their name as 2 times world champion in the golden pages of history books.
The inaugural match of India in CWC 2011 was nothing less than sheer fireworks as India registered a clinical and dominant win against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. India put in a colossal total of 370 Runs kudos to the blistering performances of Virendra Sehwag and Virat Kohli who scored 175 and 100 runs respectively. India registered a thumping 87-run victory over Bangladesh.
However, Bangladesh also put on a laud-worthy fightback by putting a chasing total of 283/9 before they completely ran out of balls. All things said, the most striking, as well as astonishing aspect of that match, was the Blitzkrieg innings of Virendra Sehwag. India got off to a brilliant start but lost the wicket of Master Blaster at an early stage. India lost another valuable wicket of Gautam Gambhir when a solid partnership between Sehwag and Gambhir was building. The real turning point of the Match was the classic partnership between Virendra Sehwag & Virat Kohli that helped team India to put on a mammoth score of 370 runs.

Though Virendra Sehwag missed breaching the mark of 200 runs, he scored towering 175 runs in just 140 balls with a strike rate of 125. He went on all guns blazing by hitting 14 fours and 5 sky-touching sixes. In the process, he also managed to equal the record of former Indian world Champion Kapil Dev as he scored once in a generation innings of 175 runs against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup.
