The ICC Cricket World Cup is around the corner. The quadrennial event is scheduled to be held in India between 5th October and 19th November. With 10 teams from all over the world, the intensity of the competition will be at its peak. One of the most prestigious tournaments held by the ICC, the spectators eagerly wait to experience the thrill and drama it unleashes.
India has hosted the biggest ICC event on three occasions in 1987, 1996 and 2011, however, the hosting remained partial in all of them. This year, the country will single-handedly host the entire tournament at its 10 most iconic venues.
The tournament has borne some of the most interesting rivalries since its inception. In nearly 2 months, 48 matches will add fuel to these fiery rivalries.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Most fifties in the Cricket World Cup
Every year, various athletes desire to make history by registering alluring records to their names. A team’s participation in the World Cup is crucial, especially if it wishes to effectively build an innings. Numerous batsmen have been able to break the pressure in each edition to join the exclusive club of players with the most fifties over the years.
In the entire tournament history, Sachin Tendulkar currently holds the record for scoring the highest number of half-centuries in the ODI World Cup history so far (21). The former Indian batsman built this record to his name in a record six World Cup appearances. Sachin has played a total of 45 matches in which he has been able to score 2278 runs at an average of 56.95.
Since the inception of the event in 1975, several players have been able to valuably contribute by scoring fifties in every edition. Sachin’s enormity of what he achieved through the number of fifties (21) he scored can very well be witnessed by the player who falls in the second position, Shakib Al Hasan, with 12 fifties to his name.
It might look like a very difficult task for batsmen to consistently perform well under pressure and score runs, but these players have been able to rise to the occasion to strengthen their place on the list and eventually end on a high as the tournament wraps up. The scenario of scoring half-centuries is no different from that. The batsman gets to effectively bestow the runs in the building of the innings. Where innings generally end on an average score of 270-300, a score of nearly 50 runs by just one player puts the team in a decent cushion of runs.
