Australia’s Glenn Maxwell has been on fire in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. First he smashed the fastest World Cup century in 40 balls against the Netherlands in Delhi. Later in the same tournament, he played one of the best ODI knocks of all time as he smashed 201 runs against Afghanistan in Mumbai and made Australia win out of nowhere when the team was struggling on 91 for 7 while chasing 292 runs.
These two knocks of Maxwell have shown that he is big match player and his contribution will be crucial for Australia in the semi-final of the ongoing tournament. Notably, Australia are set to play the second semi-final of the 2023 World Cup against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 16th November.
As a middle-order batter, Maxwell will play a crucial role in accelerating the innings in middle overs and finishing the innings on a high in the semi-final. Australia will look up to him to build a partnership if the top order fails to make an impact in a big game.
Talking about his records against the opponent, Maxwell doesn’t have impressive stats against the Proteas in ODIs as he has scored just 126 runs in 13 innings against them. However, lookin at his current form, Maxwell will be eyeing another big knock in the tournament against South Africa and help Australia to enter the World Cup finals for the eighth time.
