India finishes the day dominating the England side in all 90 overs of the play. They ended at 196 for two after the Indian bowlers bundled out the England batters for 319. Siraj was outstanding, bagging four wickets. Indian batters also dominated, with Jaiswal notching up a third hundred in test cricket and a solid performance from Shubman Gill.
The previous day’s miseries were mounted by Ravichandran Ashwin withdrawing from the test match due to a medical emergency, which saw him flee back to Chennai. India will have to play the remaining test match with 10 men and a substitute fielder, who will not be allowed to bat or ball. Ashwin has the option to get into the side in any phase of the game if he arrives, which is very unlikely to happen.

India kept pushing with their four-man bowling attack in the absence of Ravichandran Ashwin on the third day. The bowlers kept on creating chances as the track started to turn. Kuldeep Yadav proved to be a constant threat, scalping two before lunch. Post-Lunch, Indian bowlers looked in groove, taking up the remaining five wickets within the next 10 overs. Siraj’s three out of four came in these overs. Jadeja achieved another milestone this morning, becoming only the fifth Indian bowler to accomplish 200 test wickets at home, joining greats like Kumble, Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, and Kapil Dev.
India started the second inning with a lead of 126 runs. Rohit couldn’t stay long after missing the sweep-off root’s delivery before tea. On the other hand, Jaiswal was very timid at first, playing more of an anchor role to Rohit’s aggressiveness. But once the captain departed, Jaiswal took charge and attacked with some fine shots. He went without hitting any boundaries for the first 48 balls and would go on to attack for the second part of the knock. His incredible innings were put to a temporary halt due to back spasms.
He was in 104 off just 133 balls when he felt discomfort after the tea in the final session. The physio was called in after the 42nd over to look at the matter. He stayed on for another over before deciding to walk off from the field and getting a standing ovation from the crowd. The England team also appreciated the knock, with coach Brendon McCullum applauding. Jaiswal hit century and became the first Indian batter since Virat Kohli to smash 400 runs in an India vs. England test series. Kohli, who is unavailable in the ongoing series due to personal reasons, scored 593 runs during the 2018 test series against England.
Subhman Gill looked solid at the crease and played a supportive role in the middle, scoring 65 not out. These runs are very valuable for him to become consistent and dependable at the number 3 slot. Rajat Patidar again failed to make an impact, departing for a duck as nightwatchman Kuldeep Yadav saw the day out till stumps.
After a less impactful day 2, India bounced back beautifully, both with the bat and ball, to dominate all three sessions of the day’s play. India currently leads with 322 runs, and Subhman Gill would like to reap the fruits of the foundation he laid today. Sarfaraz Khan would also have fire in his eyes to come out and complete his unfinished business from the first inning.
