The first ever Adivasi player to be picked in the IPL auction, Robin Minz met with an accident on Saturday and is currently under observation. According to reports, Robin was in his Kawasaki super bike which collided with another bike resulting in him losing control and skidding on the road.
“He lost control when his bike came in contact with another bike. Nothing serious at the moment and he is currently under observation,” said Robin’s father Francis to the media.
Minz was scheduled to join Titan’s pre-season camp in Ahmedabad.
“We have been told that his bike has been damaged a bit but Minz is in no danger and he should be out of hospital very soon,” a JSCA official said to PTI.
The uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman hails from the Gumla district of Jharkhand, where he is under the tutelage of Chanchal Bhattacharya, who was MS Dhoni’s coach one time at Sonnet Cricket Club in Ranchi.
Minz recently played a brilliant 137 in the quarter-finals for Jharkhand in the U23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy against Karnataka. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to secure this win for his side.
The 21-year-old is yet to be featured for the Jharkhand at senior level but his power-hitting ability and dependable wicketkeeping grabbed the eyes of multiple scouts of the IPL franchises. As was seen when he was Picked for 3.60 crore in the last auction by Gujrat Titans, after a bidding war against Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Minz’s father Francis also disclosed earlier, that how MS Dhoni promised him to include his son in CSK.
“I had met Dhoni at the airport recently. He told me, Francis ji koi nahi lega toh hum le lenge. (If no one picks him, we will)”
Gujarat Titans’ newly appointed captain Subhman Gill, also met Francis recently at Ranchi airport, when team India went to play their fourth test against England.
