Saurabh Kumar Early Life and Career
Saurabh Kumar was born Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh on 1st May, 1993. His father was also a Kabaddi player in his village but couldn’t pursue his career in the sports due to the lack of facilities and then served as the junior Engineer at All India Radio. Before making his debut in professional cricket, Saurabh served in the Indian Air Forces on Sports Quota. He made his first class debut in 2014 while playing for Services against Himachal Pradesh. He left the Indian Air Force in 2015 to pursue his dream of playing cricket for India.
Saurabh Kumar made his domestic debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on 8th January, 2016. He had a decent outing in his first game at professional cricket where took 2 wickets in his four overs conceding 23 runs. Saurabh also finished as the top wicket-taker for Uttar-Pradesh in the 2017-18 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 23 scalps from four games. His exceptional performance made him get his first-ever IPL contract as Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) acquired his services for ₹10 Lakhs ahead of IPL 2017.
However, Saurabh Kumar didn’t get to play a single game for RPS in IPL 2017 and was released ahead of the next season. He was named in the India Blue squad for the 2018–19 Duleep Trophy and finished as the leading wicket-taker in that edition with 19 scalps in just three matches.
