In the season-opening match, Team B was invited to bat first and lost 7 wickets and scored only 94 runs. Then Team B youngster star Musheer Khan came to the rescue and slammed 181 off 373 balls including 16 fours and 5 sixes. Then Gautam Gambhir’s favorite pacer Navdeep Saini helped to strengthen Team B’s score from the other side of the strike and contributed to a 205-run partnership for the 8th wicket which is the highest partnership score in First-Class cricket history.
Saini scored 56 off 144 balls including 8 fours and 1 six and helped India B to reach 321 at the end of the first innings. In the response, team India A signed off the day with 134/2 in the 35 overs. It was Navdeep who scalped three important wickets for Team B, first skipper Shubman Gill, second Mayank Agarwal, and then Dhruv Jurel.
Saini played his last match for Team India in the 2021. It was Gambhir who fought with selectors for Navdeep Saini after watching him playing in Delhi. Looking at his Duleep Trophy performance, cricket critics are speculating his return to Team India after Gautam Gambhir became the Indian head coach.
