The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has invited applications for the position of head coach of Team India, as the contract of Rahul Dravid, the current coach of the team, is set to expire in June. He will oversee the operation until the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States of America. The board has given Dravid the option to reapply but will not give an automatic extension.
It has set a deadline until 6 p.m. on May 27, 2024. In its statement, the board has said that the selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by interviews and the assessment of the shortlisted candidates.
In the advertisement, the board states that it will also give the coach a 14–16-member team of support staff. The selected candidate will be responsible for
“developing a world-class Indian cricket team that delivers sustained success in all conditions and formats, inspiring current and future generations of cricketers and stakeholders with their approach to the game.”
It has set eligibility criteria like the candidate must have played at least 30 tests or 50 ODIs, have coached a test-playing nation for two years, or have coached any associate team or a team from the IPL or equivalent international league. It will also consider Level 3 certification given by the governing body, which should be less than 60 years old.
In the case of salary, it has been mentioned that the remuneration will be negotiable depending on the experience of the candidate. In the statement, BCCI has also mentioned that the coach will be held responsible for the performance and management of the Indian Men’s Cricket team in all three formats of the game.
