WPL 2025: The mini auction for the third edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025) was held in Bengaluru, with all five franchises trying to sign the best possible players to fill their requirements. There were some big signings at the auction. West Indies’ Deandra Dottin, Mumbai batter Simran Shaikh, and India U-19 wicketkeeper G Kamalini bagged some big deals.
After a 13-year-old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history in the IPL 2025 mega auction; the WPL 2025 auction always saw 16-year-old Kamini catching the limelight at the event. The inaugural season champion, Mumbai Indians, signed four players, signing the 16-year-old with a massive price of INR 1.6 crore, making her an overnight millionaire. Apart from that, MI also did three more players.
WPL 2025: Akshita Maheshwari becomes the first Rajasthan women cricketer to join Mumbai Indians
After winning the inaugural season, MI finished the second edition in third place after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Eliminator. Mumbai Indians went into the WPL 2025 auction with a purse value of INR 2.65 crore. They retained 14 players ahead of the auction and needed to pick four more to complete the deadline of 18 players.
They had a bidding war with Delhi Capitals to acquire the 16-year-old, which they won eventually. But apart from her, MI also bagged Rajasthan pacer Akshita Maheshwari, who made headlines. Born on October 10, 2000, the 24-year-old pacer registered herself with a base price of INR 10 lakh. She was bought for a price of INR 20 lakh by Mumbai Indians.
After she got her maiden WPL deal, she became the first Rajasthan women cricketer to join the MI family for the Women’s Premier League. Akshita is a bowling all-rounder who bowls right-arm pace and is a very handy batter down the order. She has yet to play FC cricket but has featured in some local T20 tournaments. With all the IPL and WPL franchises keeping their eyes on the emerging local talent with good potential, Akshita Maheshwari is certainly one of those.
MI also picked up veteran South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk for a price of INR 30 lakh. Sanskriti Gupta (INR 10 lakh) was the fourth pick for the franchise. They have retained the likes of Amelia Kerr, Hayley Matthews, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Nat Sciver-Brunt. Here is the complete squad for Mumbai Indians for the WPL 2025.
