During the Qualifier 1 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, fans noticed something different in the scorecard graphics. Instead of regular dot ball graphics a tree symbol was appearing instead.
This was due to the initiative taken by BCCI partnering with the Tata group. It promises to plant 500 trees for every dot ball that will be bowled during the Playoffs matches i.e. Two Qualifiers, Eliminator and Finals.

IPL broadcasters confirmed about the usage of the tree symbol to represent the dot balls during the playoffs matches.
This initiative was taken in the 2023 IPL for the first time. A total of 294 dot balls were played during Playoffs 2023 resulting in 1,47,000 trees being planted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
In Qualifier 1 against CSK and GT, 84 dot balls were bowled resulting in 42,000 saplings being planted. In Eliminator between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, 96 dot balls were bowled, meaning 48,000 trees. For the 2nd Qualifiers, 26,500 were planted. In the Finals between GT and CSK, 45 dot deliveries were bowled resulting in another 22,500 trees being planted.
The initiative aims to promote a positive approach towards a greener environment through this popular sport.
Kolkata Knight Riders secured their place in the finals comfortably after chasing the target of 160 in 13.4 overs. Mitchell Starc was named player of the match for his outstanding spell of 3 wickets for 34 runs. Winners of Qualifier 2, will face them in Chepauk on Sunday, May 26.
