The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA cricketer Akhilesh Reddy after filing three major anti-corruption charges related to the Abu Dhabi T10 2025 tournament. The 25-year-old off-spinner, who was representing UP Nawab in the league, has been banned from all forms of cricket with immediate effect.
This sudden action has shocked USA cricket fans at a time when the team is preparing for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
What Are The Charges?
According to ICC’s official statement (on behalf of Emirates Cricket Board), Akhilesh Reddy has been charged under:
1. Article 2.1.1
Attempting to fix or improperly influence the result, progress or conduct of matches in Abu Dhabi T10 2025. This includes entering into any agreement or plan to alter a match in any illegal way.
2. Article 2.1.4
Encouraging, persuading or attempting to persuade another participant to violate Article 2.1.1.
This means he allegedly tried to involve another player in corrupt activity.
3. Article 2.4.7
Obstructing investigation by deleting data, messages and other materials from his mobile device that were required for anti-corruption checks.
These offences are considered extremely serious under ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code.
Immediate Suspension
After these charges were issued, ICC confirmed that Reddy:
- Has been provisionally suspended
- Cannot participate in any form of cricket
- Has 14 days from 21 November 2025 to respond to the charges
ICC also stated that they will not comment further until the disciplinary process is completed.
Akhilesh Reddy made his international debut for USA earlier this year in the North America T20 Cup. He has played four T20Is, picking up one wicket, but had not secured a regular spot in the USA team. This controversy comes at a difficult time for USA cricket, as the board is preparing to take part in their next major ICC event in 2026. If Reddy fails to provide a satisfactory explanation, he could face a long-term ban, ending his international cricket future.
