New Zealand Test Captain Tim Southee stepped down from the role following the series defeat in Sri Lanka. On Wednesday, 2nd October, New Zealand Cricket announced that Tim Southee quit the captaincy and was replaced by Tom Latham taking over the role full-time.

In an interview, Tim Southee expressed his gratitude and hope to continue serving the team.
Southee said, “Captaining the Blackcaps in a format that’s so special to me, has been an absolute honour and a privilege…”
He said, “I believe the way I can best serve the team moving forward is focusing on my performances on the field and getting back to my best, to continue taking wickets and helping New Zealand win Test matches”
The veteran pacer Tim Southee made his debut in 2008 and since then he has played 102 test matches and scalped 382 wickets. Tim Southee, who replaced Kane Williamson six months ago only and led the squad in 14 test matches. Out of 14, Blackcaps won 6 and lost 6 games while 2 went without any result under Southee’s captainship.
Ahead of the India vs New Zealand three-test match series, Tom Latham will be the new New Zealand captain. IND vs NZ test series 1st match will take place at M Chinnaswamy Stadium starting from 16 October to 20 October.
