The rise of domestic T20 cricket tournament is at its peak with the involvement of star players who are up for getting a price for the T20 Mumbai League. As the 3rd edition is around the corner, around 280 players will be put up for auction in Mumbai on May 7.
A bunch of growing players will hit the auction floor to be up for grabs. The distinct categories have been decided to pick a player from, such as Senior Player, Emerging Player, and Development Player. The group of senior players includes those cricketers who have played T20 matches, List A, or First-Class cricket. The base price for a Senior player is fixed to be 5 lakh. The emerging players are those youngsters who have been featured in Mumbai at the U-19 or U-23 level in the past three years. The base price of an emerging player is kept to be 3 lakh, while a development player will be auctioned off at a base price of 2 lakh. The development player comprises those cricketers who are club-level and exceptional local players.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, new faces have been revealed, such as a 17-year-old youth icon, Ayush Mhatre, who is going to be the next big thing. Apart from him, Angkrish Raghuvanshi is also on the radar when the auction rolls out on Wednesday. As they are breakout stars in the 18th edition of the IPL, they are going to get a base price of 5 lakh. The teams also have icon players to spark interest among fans and make the tournament more competitive. Some of the icon players are Suryakumar Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, Ajinkya Rahane, Tushar Deshpande, and Shreyas Iyer. The services of icon players have been acquired at the base price of 20 lakh.
Each team will have a minimum of five emerging players, four senior players, and five development players in the squad, with at least 18 members.
The third edition of the T20 Mumbai League will see eight teams participating in the tournament, starting from May 26 at Wankhede Stadium. The final match of this domestic league will be live on June 8.
Abhay Hadap who is the secretary of Mumbai Cricket Association said that the pool of exciting player shows blend of quality and depth that Mumbai cricket presents. The franchises will head up for combining a variety of fresh talents and emerging stars to come up with competitive teams.
