The 6-times Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka cricket team would look to add to their existing title count in 2025. The Lankan Lions will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on September 13, Saturday. They are rated as one of the favorites to win the tournament in 2025.
Sri Lanka’s last success in the Asia Cup dates back to 2022. They beat Pakistan by 23 runs to claim their 6th title, further boosting their status as the 2nd most successful team in the history of the tournament, behind Team India.

5: 150 Runs vs Pakistan (T20I Asia Cup 2016)
Sri Lanka’s 150 Runs vs Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2016, the inaugural T20I edition of the tournament, is currently ranked 5th in terms of Sri Lanka’s highest totals in Asia Cup in T20I and ODI format.
It was the match number 10 played in Mirpur where Sri Lanka scored 150 runs batting first. The opening duo of Tillakaratne Dilshan and Dinesh Chandimal were the top batters having scored 75 and 58 runs respectively. Other batters couldn’t contribute much as Pakistan chased the target and won the match.

Sri Lanka improved on their highest total in the T20I Asia Cup six years later as they scored 170 runs vs Pakistan in the final match of the 2022 Asia Cup. Despite a lackluster start, some crucial contributions from the likes of Dhananjaya de Silva, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne and Bhanuka Rajapaksa was the team’s top scorer with 71 runs. Later, they bowled out Pakistan for 147 runs to win the Asia Cup 2022 title.

The eventual champions’ brilliance in the tournament was visible during the Super Four phase of the tournament as well as they beat India in Dubai. The Lankan Lions scored 174 Runs in the 9th match of the Super Four round.
Opening batters both scored half-century as Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis both scored 52 and 57 runs respectively. Down the order, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dasun Shanaka played cameo of 25 and 33 runs as they chased the target of 174 runs vs then defending champions Team India.

Sri Lanka’s 179 runs vs Afghanistan in the T20 Asia Cup 2022 is ranked 2nd in Sri Lanka’s highest scores in the Asia Cup played in T20I format. It was the 7th match of the Super Four round played in Sharjah. They were chasing a target of 176 runs and it was a total team effort to chase the target.
Opening batters Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka scored 36 and 35 runs respectively. In the middle-order, Dhanushka Gunathilaka, Bhanuka Rajapaksas scored 33 and 31 runs. Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga also scored 8 and 16 runs to help in the team’s run chase. Eventually they won the match by 4 wickets.

And Sri Lanka’s best performance in the T20I Asia Cup also came in the 2022 Asia Cup. It was match five of the Super Four round against Bangladesh in which the Lankan Lions scored 184 runs, making it a successful run chase for the 2nd most successful team in the tournament.
Chasing 184 runs target, Kusal Mendis gave the perfect start to the Sri Lankan team. He scored 60 runs off 37 balls. Down the order, captain Dasun Shanaka played a fantastic innings of 45 runs off 33 runs. Little efforts from other batters helped Sri Lanka cross the line for victory.
