Indian women’s cricket star and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has postponed her much-awaited wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal after her father, Srinivas Mandhana, suffered a sudden health emergency on Sunday. The ceremony was scheduled to take place in Sangli on 23 November, but joy turned into concern when her father complained of severe chest pain just hours before the rituals.
According to doctors at the Sangli hospital, Srinivas Mandhana experienced angina pectoris, a heart-related condition that causes intense chest discomfort. He was immediately taken to the ICU for observation, where specialists conducted ECG and other medical tests. While his condition is stable, doctors will reassess him with more tests on Monday before deciding whether angiography is required.
Smriti, who is extremely close to her father, decided to postpone the wedding “indefinitely” until he recovers fully. Her manager confirmed that the cricketer prioritised family over celebrations, saying she would not go ahead with the marriage while her father remains unwell.
In another emotional step, Smriti has removed all wedding-related posts from her Instagram account, including her engagement announcement video that had gone viral. Fans were surprised by this move, but it reflects the seriousness of the situation and her emotional state.
Before this unexpected turn, the wedding festivities were in full swing, with haldi, mehendi, and sangeet ceremonies celebrated joyfully over the last two days. Videos of the events had flooded social media, creating excitement among fans who were eagerly waiting to see the star batter tie the knot.
Smriti and Palash Muchhal have reportedly been in a relationship for nearly six years and were ready to begin a new chapter. Just a few weeks ago, Smriti was a key part of India historic Women’s World Cup 2025 victory, scoring 434 runs in the tournament and helping India lift the trophy.
For now, celebrations take a backseat as the Mandhana family focuses on Srinivas’ health. Fans across the country are sending prayers and heartfelt wishes for his speedy recovery.
