The India vs Australia Women’s World Cup 2025 clash in Visakhapatnam turned into a historic showdown filled with stunning records, remarkable batting, and emotional moments. Although Australia clinched a thrilling 3-wicket win, the match will be remembered for Smriti Mandhana record-breaking brilliance and several new milestones in women’s cricket.
Mandhana Becomes First Woman to Score 1000 ODI Runs in a Year
Smriti Mandhana achieved what no other woman cricketer had ever done before. The elegant left-hander crossed the 1000-run mark in ODIs within a single calendar year, breaking Australian legend Belinda Clark’s 27-year-old record of 970 runs set in 1997. Mandhana reached this historic milestone during her fluent 80-run knock off 66 balls against the Aussies.

Fastest Woman to Reach 5000 ODI Runs
The 29-year-old continued rewriting record books, completing 5000 runs in her 112th ODI innings — faster than any woman in history. She surpassed West Indies’ Stafanie Taylor, who took 129 innings to reach the same mark. Mandhana is now the third-fastest player overall (men or women) to achieve 5000 ODI runs, behind only Babar Azam and Hashim Amla.
India Registers Highest-Ever World Cup Score
India posted a mammoth total of 330 runs — their highest-ever score in Women’s World Cup history and also their best against Australia. The innings was powered by a record-breaking 155-run opening partnership between Mandhana and young Pratika Rawal. The duo’s effort broke India’s previous World Cup opening stand record of 69 runs set in 2009 by Anjum Chopra and Anagha Deshpande.
Mandhana’s Dominance Over Australia Continues
This was Mandhana’s fifth consecutive fifty-plus score against Australia in women’s ODIs, a feat no other player has achieved. With this, she also went past Mithali Raj for the most 50+ scores by an Indian against the Australian side, underlining her dominance against world champions.
Australia Pulls Off the Greatest Chase in History
Despite Mandhana’s heroics, Australia had the last laugh. Led by captain Alyssa Healy’s breathtaking 142 off 107 balls, the Aussies chased down 331 — the highest successful run chase in the history of women’s ODIs. Healy was ably supported by Ellyse Perry (47) and Ashleigh Gardner (45) as the visitors sealed victory with just an over to spare.
The high-scoring thriller produced a total of 13 sixes — the most ever hit in a Women’s World Cup match. From Mandhana’s majestic strokeplay to Healy’s counter-attack, the contest was a perfect showcase of how far women’s cricket has evolved.
Despite India’s defeat, Smriti Mandhana’s heroics ensured this match will be etched in World Cup history — a night when records tumbled, barriers broke, and women’s cricket took another giant leap forward.
