India’s T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill is in Bengaluru to appear for a fitness test at the Centre of Excellence. As the T20 Asia Cup 2025 is on the horizon, all Indian players who are part of the squad are bound to undergo an essential assessment.
According to a report, Gill will participate in the fitness test in the upcoming days at the facility owned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Following the fitness test, he will reportedly head to the UAE with a direct flight from Bengaluru.
This update comes after Gill’s recovery from sickness, and he was in a rest mode at his home in Chandigarh. He had to withdraw from participating in the Duleep Trophy 2025. Post recovery, the right-handed batsman continued practice before arriving in Bengaluru on August 29 (Friday).
The 25-year-old cricketer has played 21 T20Is, scoring 578 runs at an average of 30.42 and a strike rate of 139.27 with one century and three fifties. His highest score was an unbeaten 126 against New Zealand.
Men in Blue Gear Up for Practice in UAE
The unusual travel plan will bring the Indian team to Dubai to assemble on September 4. The players will land in the UAE separately from their existing locations considering convenience and logistics. They will reportedly start the practice session on September 5 at the ICC Academy in Dubai. It is the same place where Men in Blue did their practice during the glorious ICC Champions Trophy 2025, winning the final against New Zealand.
India played the last series against England, but it was in a Test format. In the last T20I series, India faced England in 5 T20 clashes, winning it 4-1 in Jan-Feb 2025.
In the Asia Cup 2025, India will open the campaign against the United Arab Emirates on September 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Further, in Group A clashes, India will gear up against Pakistan on September 14 at the same venue before facing Oman at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on September 19. The next challenge will be the Super 4 stage in the Asia Cup.
